Leagues ApS, the former NLC operator, ceases operations.

Leagues ApS, the esports tournament operator behind the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) in the UK and Nordics, is set to close its doors, as confirmed by reliable sources.

The Danish firm, which managed the esports platform Leagues.gg and its media branch, Leagues Media, recently informed Riot Games that it can no longer oversee the NLC.

Ramish Hussain, Head of Live Production at Leagues Media, announced on LinkedIn this week that his tenure at the company has ended due to its shutdown.

A senior source has verified that all employees have been let go as a result of the closure.

While the company remains listed as active in Denmark’s Central Business Register, its status is anticipated to change shortly.

This development follows a series of layoffs last year when Leagues ApS decided to centralize its operations in Copenhagen. Earlier this year, NLC broadcast talent took to social media to express concerns over delayed payments, outstanding invoices, and being dropped from the roster, which left the NLC streams without commentators.

After notifying Riot Games of its inability to continue operating the NLC, discussions have begun with potential new partners.

Recently, Riot provided an update, announcing the postponement of the NLC spring split to late April to allow more time for finalizing the league’s structure.

“We understand this disrupts your ability to follow and support your favorite teams, and we’re working to resolve it quickly,” Riot stated.

“We’re continuing to assess both the short and long-term structure and stability of the region, with the goal of ensuring teams across the UK, Ireland, and the Nordics have a reliable competitive environment. We’re exploring different options for the format to determine the best path forward.

“We’ll share a full update as soon as the new tournament organizer, format, and dates are confirmed.”
