Malaysian Esports Federation Aims for RM 6M in Government Support
The Malaysian Esports Federation is seeking over RM 6 million, approximately $1.5 million USD, from the government agency responsible for sports in the country to bolster esports initiatives in 2026, as reported by a local source.
With the sector showing “strong results in 2025,” President Muhammad Naim Al-Amin Saharuddin emphasized that the requested funds would be allocated to support tournaments and various developmental projects in esports throughout the year. Esports falls under the jurisdiction of Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Ministry.
“This amount should be enough to foster leagues across different esports titles,” he stated during a press event at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where he bid farewell to two Malaysian teams—Red Giants and CG Esports—heading to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship (M7). He further noted, “They need more exposure to tournaments to cultivate high-quality esports athletes.”
In 2025, the Malaysia Esports Federation hosted the International Esports Federation’s premier championship event, the World Esports Championships 2025 for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, held in Kuala Lumpur from December 1 to 7. Although the IESF Championship usually features multiple titles, the federation faced challenges in securing a host city for the overall WEC event that year.
