India’s Mobile Gaming Revenue Set to Hit ₹12,500 Crore in 2026 — New Report Reveals Massive Growth

India’s mobile gaming market is no longer just a volume story. A new report titled India’s State of Play, released by MIXI Global Investments in July 2026, has put concrete revenue numbers on what the industry has long been expecting: Indian players are spending more money on games than ever before, and the trajectory is only pointing upward.

What the Numbers Actually Show

The report, authored by analytics firm Naavik and powered by Sensor Tower, estimates that India’s combined in-app purchase and advertising revenue from mobile games will hit approximately $1.5 billion — roughly ₹12,500 crore — in 2026. That’s up from around $1.1 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow further to $2.4 billion by 2029. To put this in context, India currently has 600 million active mobile gaming players — up 9% year on year — and saw nearly 8 billion mobile game downloads in 2025, trailing only China in raw download volume.

Why This Growth Is Different From Before

What makes 2026’s numbers particularly meaningful is that they represent a shift in the nature of India’s gaming market. Between 2020 and 2025, in-app purchase revenue more than doubled even as total download numbers stayed broadly flat — which means Indian players are moving from a culture of downloading free games toward actually spending money within them. The report credits growing UPI integration for seamless in-game payments, expanding 5G coverage reducing latency for cloud gaming, and publishers increasingly developing vernacular content tailored to Indian audiences outside of metro cities. Tier 2 and Tier 3 city players are now being identified as the key growth engine for the next phase of India’s gaming market expansion.
