James Bond Origin Game ‘007 First Light’ Unveiled — Launching in 2026
IO Interactive has officially unveiled its long-awaited James Bond project, now titled 007 First Light, during the latest PlayStation State of Play event. The cinematic trailer offers a fresh take on the iconic spy’s origin, with the game slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
A Younger Bond, A New Beginning
Set at the start of Bond’s career, 007 First Light follows a 26-year-old James Bond before he becomes the fully-fledged 007. Orphaned at 11, raised in boarding schools, and recruited from the Royal Navy into MI6 — this version of Bond is raw, instinctive, and still learning the art of espionage. The story introduces reimagined versions of classic characters like M, Q, and Moneypenny, while Lennie James (The Walking Dead) stars as Bond’s mentor, John Greenway.
The game promises a cinematic, narrative-driven experience where players can choose how to handle missions — through brute force or Bond’s signature charm. A brief look at gameplay teased stealth mechanics, gadgets, close-quarters combat, and the use of disguises, all reminiscent of IO’s Hitman pedigree.
Gameplay, Platforms & What’s Next
Described as a third-person action-adventure, 007 First Light will offer globe-trotting missions and choice-based gameplay. It will be optimized for PS5 Pro, with 60 FPS support in Quality Mode and enhanced visuals through PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).
Initially teased as Project 007 back in 2020, IO has now confirmed that First Light is designed as the beginning of a new Bond game trilogy. With Hitman on pause, all eyes are now on how this bold reimagining of Bond’s early years will unfold.
