PlayStation State of Play September 2026: Wolverine Trailer, Final Fantasy VII Revelation Date and Every Major Reveal

Sony wrapped up the first week of September with a double bill. PlayStation aired its September State of Play on September 3, 2026, and followed it straight away with a State of Play Japan broadcast hosted by voice actor Yuki Kaji. For viewers in India, the main show began at 6:30 PM IST and ran for roughly an hour, packing in release dates, surprise DLC and fresh footage for a long list of PS5 games. Here is a clean breakdown of what mattered most.

Wolverine, Ghost of Yōtei and Crimson Desert Lead the Near-Term Slate

The presentation put its biggest near-term release front and centre with a launch trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, the Insomniac Games exclusive that arrives on PS5 on September 15. Sony also confirmed fresh content for Ghost of Yōtei: an expansion called Echoes of Sekigahara and a new mode named Most Wanted, both due on October 1. Anyone who finished the main story now has a solid reason to jump back in.

Open-world fans were not left out. Pearl Abyss revealed the first DLC for Crimson Desert, titled Charting the Unknown, which lands on October 15. Capcom showed more of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and Metro 2039 received a release date trailer alongside a closer look at its gameplay. Hunter’s Moon was dated for October 26, while a Digimon Story Time Stranger expansion and a Gundam project called Rogue Orbit rounded out the surprises. Those smaller reveals gave the show some variety beyond the usual blockbuster beats.

Until Dawn 2, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and a GTA 6 DualSense

Looking further ahead, Sony locked in January 28, 2027 for Until Dawn 2 on PS5, with pre-orders opening on September 10. Role-playing fans got the evening’s biggest date as Final Fantasy VII Revelation was set for April 8, 2027. Square Enix has said the game will also reach Xbox, Switch 2 and PC, and the State of Play delivered another deep dive that included a closer look at Vincent Valentine’s combat style.

There was a collector’s moment too. Sony announced limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense wireless controllers, with pre-orders starting on September 10. With Rockstar’s open-world crime epic scheduled for November 19, 2026, the controller gives PS5 owners an early way to mark the occasion.

The show also featured an extended clip from the upcoming Resident Evil film. Directed by Zach Cregger, the movie retells the Raccoon City outbreak from the era of Resident Evil 2 and opens exclusively in IMAX theatres on September 18, 2026.

For PlayStation players, the takeaway is a busy autumn followed by a strong start to 2027. Wolverine, the Ghost of Yōtei additions and the Crimson Desert DLC all arrive within roughly six weeks of the broadcast, while Until Dawn 2 and Final Fantasy VII Revelation give the next calendar year a pair of anchor releases. Several of the announced titles, including Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, are also heading to other platforms, which keeps the multiplatform conversation alive even as Sony pushes its own exclusives. Indian PS5 owners planning their wish lists now have clear dates to work with, and the pre-order windows opening on September 10 make that planning more urgent.
