A Guide to Acquiring Copper in Hytale

In Hytale, once you’ve got the basics down for gathering resources, it’s time to hunt for copper. This ore and its ingots are crucial for early crafting, allowing you to upgrade your stone weapons and create essential items like a Blacksmith’s Anvil and an Armorer’s workbench, along with the various tools they unlock. Early in the game, copper is a common necessity for several crafting recipes.

However, much like finding plant fiber, locating copper can be tricky if you’re not sure where to start. Let’s break down how to find and gather copper effectively.

Mining for copper in Hytale is straightforward. Just pick a spot and start digging down. Be sure to bring plenty of torches or materials to craft them, as it gets dark quickly, and you’ll need light as you delve deeper. Also, think about your exit strategy—digging a stairway down is much better than creating a one-way hole.

As you dig, you’ll likely encounter one of two scenarios: either a cavern or blocks of ore with knobbly, angular protrusions. If you see orange, that’s copper; grey indicates iron. These are the most common ores you’ll find early on. If you spot either ore, you’re close to a cavern, as they often appear in the walls of these underground spaces, so dig around to uncover the main area.

Keep an eye out for a couple of things in any cavern you discover. First, look for the distant glimmer of ore in the walls and ceiling. Second, be wary of spiders—huge ones. While there are other monsters lurking about, spiders are the most common, often indicated by the webs scattered throughout the area.

Depending on the location of the copper, you might need to build up to reach it, but by the time you find a cavern, you should have enough rock in your inventory to assist you. Gather as much as you can carry and then make your way back up. If you placed plenty of torches on your descent and dug a staircase, following the light back home should be a breeze.

You might also spot copper and other ores peeking out from the sides of hills or rocky areas while exploring the surface. While this can be a nice bonus, it’s not a reliable gathering method. Additionally, you can find both ore and ingots in chests and other loot, which is helpful but not something you can count on.

Once you have copper ore, you’ll need to craft a furnace to turn it into copper ingots. You can build a furnace at your workbench using six tree trunks and six stones. To power the furnace, you’ll need charcoal, which you can easily obtain by running a campfire (with or without food) and burning sticks or wood. A furnace is also essential for creating Hytale Repair Kits and a variety of other items, making it a valuable tool to have in your arsenal.
