A Guide to Acquiring Voidhearts in Hytale

In Hytale, while there are plenty of materials to gather, voidhearts stand out as a bit of a challenge. Unlike other mob drops, these elusive items come from specific enemies but aren’t guaranteed to drop every time.

The hunt for voidhearts is largely a matter of luck. To maximize your chances, I’ll outline the best strategies for acquiring them. Just be prepared for some combat, so equip yourself with the best gear you can craft, like cobalt or thorium.

You can obtain voidhearts by defeating any Voidspawn enemy—those eerie creatures that only appear at night. Contrary to popular belief, voidhearts aren’t limited to the Void Eyes (the large, floating, tentacled foes). Personally, I’ve had better luck getting them from Void Spawns, the humanoid monsters wielding big swords.

For optimal farming, head to the Howling Sands (desert) or Whisperfrost Frontiers (snow) zones after dark. These biomes are flatter and have fewer trees, making it easier to spot Voidspawn from a distance. Move around and take out as many as you can, focusing on the Eye, Spawn, and Spectre types, as they respawn quickly.

Be aware that the drop rate for voidhearts is relatively low—around 10% in my experience. However, I’ve consistently found more from Spawns than from Eyes.

I also suggest crafting a hand crossbow. This ranged weapon can hold multiple arrows, allowing you to quickly take down Void Eyes and Void Spawns before they can retaliate.

Another approach to farming voidhearts and void essence is to create an Ancient Gateway at an Arcanist’s Workbench. When combined with the Dread Wade fragment, you can teleport to a swampy arena that spawns a horde of Voidspawn. While this method is more challenging than simply roaming the desert, it can yield results.

Currently, voidhearts aren’t particularly useful despite the effort required to obtain them. You’ll need three voidhearts to upgrade the Armorer’s Workbench to tier three, which unlocks adamantite and mithril armor. However, since mithril isn’t available in the game yet, crafting mithril armor isn’t an option. They’re also necessary for the second backpack upgrade at the Workbench.
