A Guide to Finding Quartz in Subnautica 2
Quartz is one of the essential resources you’ll need to gather in Subnautica 2, as it’s crucial for crafting key tools. Among these is the Scanner, which allows you to unlock nearly every significant blueprint, from the Sonic Resonator to the Wakemaker and Tadpole.
However, locating quartz can be a challenge when you’re navigating a monster-filled ocean without a clear idea of what to search for. Here’s where to start your quest for quartz and how to amass a good supply.
You can find quartz as small white crystals scattered on and within coral domes on the ocean floor, including beneath the Lifepod. These distinctive orange and green domes are easy to spot, especially in the northwest area around the Lifepod. Collecting these small quartz chunks by hand will enable you to craft basic tools like the Scanner and create glass for the Habitat Builder. Additionally, you can break medium-sized crystals with your Survival Multitool to yield even more quartz.
As you progress, you’ll need to gather quartz in larger quantities, which means seeking out large quartz crystals that require mining with the Sonic Resonator. These larger deposits are typically located in caves, but one of my favorite spots is a deep trench near a water current, about 350-400 meters north of the Lifepod, close to the Old Habitat. This area is rich in quartz, titanium, copper, silver, and even lead, making it my go-to mining location.
