A Guide to Finding Sulfur in Subnautica 2
Finding sulfur in Subnautica 2 is easier than it seems, but I hit a wall when I needed just one piece to craft the Repair Tool. This item is crucial because it allows you to access a nearby wreck and unlock the Rebreather.
Let’s dive into where you can quickly snag your first sulfur, and you’ll end up with more than enough for now. To gather it in larger quantities, you’ll need the Sonic Resonator, which you should have by this point if you’re on the hunt for sulfur.
Sulfur appears as a yellowish rock (technically a crystal) that can easily be confused with gold. The prime spot to find sulfur early in the game is on a rock pillar in the open seabed near the Coral Crabs, located about 120° southeast of the Lifepod, roughly 25 meters deep and 200 meters away, past the Welcome Centre. You might have already spotted a Wakemaker fragment on the science platform at the base, and there’s also a good source of salt nearby.
You’ll find four large sulfur deposits that require the Sonic Resonator to mine, along with a few smaller ones you can collect by hand, giving you a solid stash of the yellow crystal. There are also some scattered on the sand in this area. Since this location is close to volcanic vents, make sure you have the Heat Tolerance Adaptation before venturing further northeast to avoid getting burned.
Your first use for sulfur will be in crafting the Repair Tool, which requires:
Once you know where to find sulfur, crafting this handy gadget becomes a breeze. After you’ve got the Repair Tool, I suggest heading to the large shipwreck about 360 meters northeast of the Lifepod, where you can cut open the doors to access the Rebreather equipment.
You’ll also need sulfur (and gold) to create Strong Acid, along with advanced wiring kits, which are essential for later tools and base facilities.
