A Guide to Starting a Family in Paralives: Tips for Getting Pregnant

Life simulation enthusiasts know that nothing spices up the gameplay quite like a little romance and the prospect of parenthood—sometimes both at the same time! In Paralives, having a baby isn’t as straightforward as you might expect if you’re coming from The Sims. You’ll need to navigate the right “together cards” during conversations and utilize Paralives’ unique method for performing actions together to make that baby happen. Here’s a quick guide to the baby-making process in Paralives, along with a step-by-step walkthrough.

For seasoned life simmers, this part is a breeze. Take every chance you get to engage in flirty conversations with your partner, selecting the flirty together cards until your storyteller presents you with a card that boosts your “lover” relationship label. Once you’ve established that romantic connection, you’ll unlock wants and together cards that pertain to starting a family.

While it might not be strictly necessary, becoming lovers first will make it significantly easier to draw the “try for baby” flirt card or persuade someone to have a baby together, based on the success rates for that card.

After you’ve built up some flirtation with your partner, you have a couple of ways to broach the topic of procreation:

Choosing “Try for a baby NOW” will send your characters straight to bed for some spontaneous fun. However, this is a one-time deal and doesn’t allow for repeated attempts whenever you feel like it. For a more thoughtful approach, consider discussing your relationship first.

When you get the “discuss state of relationship” stack of together cards, which is a neutral white card at the top, cycle through the options using the arrow button to find the pink flirty card that says “ask if they want to have children together in the future.” After selecting this option, you’ll be informed that your characters can now try for a baby “at any time, when they’re ready!” But how does that work?

❗ You can also use the Paralives cheats “getpregnant” and “pregnantstatus” to make a character conceive and check the time until birth.

Once you’ve had a responsible discussion about the emotional and financial aspects of parenthood, how do you actually try for that baby? It’s all about Paralives’ system for performing actions together. Select both characters by clicking and dragging a box around them (if they’re not in the same household) or by holding Shift and clicking both portraits (if they are). With both characters selected, click on a bed and choose “try for baby.”

After the attempt, send your expecting character to any toilet and select “take pregnancy test” to find out if you should be preparing for a new arrival.

❗ To successfully try for a baby, you need one character who can impregnate and another who can become pregnant. You can use Paralives cheats to “editcharacter” and check the detailed gender information for your characters if you’re unsure. Same-sex characters can also “try for baby” in bed together, but they won’t succeed. For those interested in adoption, details are below.

❗ Open your settings menu and check your “storyteller” to verify the chances of becoming pregnant and the duration of trimesters and labor, so you know how long your character will be pregnant based on your settings.

If pregnancy isn’t an option, or if your characters can’t conceive together, you’ll still want to have that conversation about kids in the “discuss state of relationship” card stack. This will earn you the label “prospective co-parent” in your relationship menu.

After that, either prospective parent can visit the hospital or pharmacy in town and select “adopt baby.” Your character will be busy for two hours and will return with a new baby to name.
