New weapons are always a game-changer when a new season of Call of Duty drops, and the latest additions in Black Ops 7 Season 2 are exceptionally powerful.
This season introduces fresh maps and modes alongside beloved classics like Safeguard and Slums, but the standout features are undoubtedly the new weapons. The REV-46 SMG and EGRT-17 assault rifle are currently dominating the lobbies, and upcoming adjustments could enhance their impact on the BO7 meta.
If you played Black Ops 7 last season, you likely encountered the Maddox RFB assault rifle in many matches. A returning favorite from Black Ops 4, the Maddox was a powerhouse in BO7, excelling in both close-range and long-range combat.
Although the Maddox received a nerf in Season 1, it remains one of the top assault rifles. However, the new weapons introduced in Season 2 have taken the lead. With balance changes arriving later than usual to allow the developers to assess weapon performance in real-time, the REV-46 and EGRT-17 are set to reign supreme for the foreseeable future.
Last season, the Maddox was a problematic weapon, shredding enemies at close range and boasting minimal recoil at long distances. This season, Treyarch has introduced the EGRT-17, which also excels in close-range combat and can maintain low recoil at long range. See the issue?
While the EGRT-17 may not match the Maddox’s long-range accuracy, it compensates with superior close-range power, trading one strength for another.
The EGRT-17 features the second-highest fire rate in its class, surpassed only by the rapid-fire Peacekeeper, yet it maintains a manageable recoil pattern despite its high rate of fire. With the right attachments, it can become incredibly precise. The only drawback is its slower-than-average reload speed, but that can be mitigated with the right gear.
As if that weren’t enough, the EGRT-17’s bullets can ricochet off surfaces. Once you prestige the weapon, you unlock an attachment that allows bullets to ricochet three times, significantly enhancing damage range and bullet velocity, making it even easier to control.
The new SMG this season is equally formidable. The REV-46 boasts the fastest fire rate among SMGs in Black Ops 7, which is just one reason for its current popularity.
A weapon that can decimate foes at close range is inherently powerful in any Call of Duty title, and the REV-46 has a unique feature: a folding stock. It’s the only weapon in the game with this mechanic, and its stats shift dramatically based on the configuration.
By using the fire-select button, you can fold or deploy the REV-46’s stock at will. When the stock is folded, the REV-46 offers unmatched handling with lightning-fast aim down sights (ADS) and sprint-to-fire speeds. Unfolding the stock reduces recoil and tightens the hipfire reticle significantly.
This versatility makes the REV-46 a dream for SMG enthusiasts, and its prestige attachment enhances movement and ADS speed while the stock is extended, at the cost of a bit more recoil. However, this tradeoff is minimal, allowing the REV-46 to excel in both hipfire and room-clearing scenarios.
These weapons are already formidable, and balance patches could shift the landscape, but the EGRT-17 and REV-46 have me excited for what else Season 2 has in store.
Both guns are gaining traction with the Warzone community, and Black Ops 7 Season 2 is set to reintroduce the beloved Blackout mode from Black Ops 4. Blackout was a hit, offering a more enjoyable experience for casual play.
Designed for fast-paced action, Blackout seems like the perfect environment for the EGRT-17 and REV-46 to thrive in the new meta. While it may not be a direct replica of BO4’s battle royale, as it’s being marketed as a “new battle royale experience” inspired by Blackout, if the core mechanics remain intact, finding these two weapons will feel like discovering a gold SCAR in the original Fortnite.
Blackout won’t return until Season 2 Reloaded, so there’s still time for these weapons to be adjusted. For now, grinding the battle pass for the EGRT-17 and REV-46 is definitely worth it.
