In Resident Evil 2, the medallion puzzles are your ticket out of the police station. You’ll need to collect them from the lion, maiden, and unicorn statues, using specific codes to unlock each one. Once you have all three, you can access the path forward to continue your journey.
If you’re still navigating the police station, make sure to check out key locations if you haven’t already. Before you leave, grab some essentials like the shotgun and grenade launcher—two powerful weapons you definitely don’t want to overlook. We also have all the safe and locker codes to help you unlock any you encounter along the way.
Now, let’s dive into how to find the lion, maiden, and unicorn statues and the medallions you need to escape the police station in Resident Evil 2.
When you first step into the RPD, you’ll witness a shocking scene where Leon sees a fellow officer meet a gruesome fate. After this intense moment, you’ll find an Officer’s Notebook on the cop’s body, which contains crucial information to help you solve the medallion mystery.
Once you have the notebook, exit the area. After a chat with Marvin Branagh, head to the second floor of the Main Hall and examine the Lion Statue in front of you. Pull out your Officer’s Notebook and check the symbols beneath it. Enter the symbols in the correct order to retrieve the Lion Medallion. Lion Statue code: Lion Head, Thistle, Bird.
To get the Unicorn Medallion, you’ll need to put in a bit more effort. From the Main Hall, head towards the entrance of the RCPD and cut the tape on the reception door controls with your knife. Once inside, take the stairs up to the third floor. Watch out for zombies as you ascend. Make your way to the Library and open the south-facing door at the bottom to enter the Lounge. Be prepared to deal with any zombies in the Library. Inside the Lounge, interact with the Unicorn Statue and enter the code from your Officer’s Notebook. Unicorn Statue code: Fish, Scorpion, Jug.
The Maiden Medallion is the most challenging to obtain. It’s located in the West Storage Room behind a gate, but you’ll need to take a few extra steps to get it. First, find the Cutting Tool after meeting Claire. Head to the Fire Escape on the East side of the RPD, and after a brief cutscene, you’ll find the Cutting Tool on a garbage can. Use it to open the door and grab the Round Handle from the East Office. With the Round Handle in hand, go to the Operations Room on the West side of level 1F, using the Cutting Tool to enter. Pick up the Electronic Gadget and head towards the Shower Room on level 2F.
Once in the Shower Room, use the Round Handle on the pipe to turn off the scalding steam. As you navigate the hallway, you’ll encounter a Licker, so be stealthy to avoid a gruesome end. After sneaking past, enter the S.T.A.R.S Office and grab the battery from the desk. Combine the battery with the Electronic Gadget to create a Detonator. Now, return to the West Storage Room and place the Detonator on the wooden barricade. Find cover and watch as the barricade explodes. Approach the Maiden Statue and input the required symbols to claim your prize. Maiden Statue code: Woman, Bow, Snake. Once you have all the medallions, head to the first floor and place them into the Goddess Statue in the Main Hall to reveal a secret passageway.
In your second playthrough, you’ll need to collect the medallions again to exit the police station, but this time things are a bit different. Your notebook and the statues will be damaged, making it harder to read the combinations. You’ll find a page from the notebook as ‘A Scrap of Paper’ in the Watchman’s Room on 1F east, while the main notebook will be on the sofa in the main hall where Marvin was sitting.
The unicorn statue is the easiest since you can still read two of the three options. The actual code is: Unicorn Statue code: Children, Scales, Snake.
For the Maiden statue, you still need to combine the Electronic Gadget and Battery to create a detonator for the Plastic explosive in the West Storage Room. Once inside, you’ll find that while the code remains intact, the statue itself is damaged, so you’ll need to carefully examine the symbols to enter this code: Maiden Statue code: Ram, Harp, Bird.
The Lion Medallion requires a bit more effort in the second playthrough. The code is completely illegible in the notebook, but there’s another way to figure it out.
When you go to the Lounge to retrieve the Unicorn Medallion, look for a yellow box on the table against the wall. Examine it to find the ‘Lion Statue’ film inside. Take it to the dark room in the first-floor save room (where you developed the film rolls) and develop it to reveal this code: Lion Statue code: Crown, Flames, Bird. With all three medallions, you can now unlock the secret passage and make your escape from the Police Station.
