Complete Guide to Finding Endangered Species in Monster Hunter Stories 3
Monster Hunter Stories 3 lets you capture and tame the iconic monsters you’ve spent countless hours battling in the main series. Among the coolest creatures are the endangered species, which can only be found in specific locations. While some quests will guide you to these rare monsters, others will require you to explore on your own. Defeating the invasive monsters guarding their eggs will reward you with some of the best monsties in the game. Here’s where to find all nine endangered species in Monster Hunter Stories 3.
The first endangered species you’ll encounter is Rathian, which is part of a main story quest, so you won’t miss it. You can find it in a den on the eastern edge of Azuria in Sunpetal Plains, protected by an Invasive Yian Garuga. Break its legs to make it retreat, then grab the Rathian egg once the area is clear.
Next up is Lagiacrus, also located in Azuria. Its den is hidden in a cave at Mirror Lake. Look for signs of disturbed endemic life near the Catavan Stand on the small island in the lake. Swim north through a narrow channel to reach it. An Invasive Plesioth guards this area, so use a hammer to break its head and then recover the egg.
Astalos is the last endangered species you can find in Azuria, located in the northwestern corner of Mirror Lake. Use a flying monstie to catch the updrafts and glide to the area with glowing endemic life. An Invasive Seregios guards the den, so you’ll need a hammer with an area-of-effect skill to defeat it. Pay attention to its roar color, then use an AOE hammer skill to win a Head-to-Head and drive it away to claim the egg.
The Canyne egg is part of the main story and can be found in the southern part of Cantalta Timberland. An Invasive Arzuros protects this den. Defeat the other monsters it summons until it flees, then you can take the Canyne egg.
Nargacuga is also in the Canalta Timberland region. Glide to the southeastern part of Blessing Hill to find it, but watch out for the Invasive Nerscylla. This monster can take you out in one hit with its Invasive Death Scissors attack and is immune to damage when not attacking. Use Wyvern Blaze with a gunlance while it targets you to drive it away.
Mizutsune is the final endangered species in the Canalta Timberland region. To find its den, look behind the waterfall at the northern edge of the Frozen Grotto area. An Invasive Shogun Ceanatuar guards this den. Boost your guard with Defense Up (L) to survive its claw attack, then grab the Mizutsune egg.
In the third region, Tarukan, you can find Zinogre. Its den is at the top of a mountain in Rococo Rocks. Use updrafts to glide there with Ratha or another flying monstie. An Invasive Odogaron awaits you in the den. Inflict it with Mudbogged using Almudron’s Mud Torrent ability, then break its claws with piercing damage to claim the Zinogre egg.
Tigrex can also be found in Tarukan, at the southern tip of the Colossal Dragon’s Remains area. There’s a small path behind the tall mountains leading to its hidden den. An Invasive Diablos guards this area. Use Meteor Hammer with a hammer when it burrows, as it can emerge from three different spots, making it a game of Whack-A-Mole. Once you’ve dealt enough damage, the Tigrex egg is yours.
Finally, Barioth is the last endangered species in Monster Hunter Stories 3, and it’s the only one found in Serathis. Its den is northeast of the Coastline Catavan Stand. An Invasive Khezu stands in your way, attempting to paralyze your party, so bring items to cure the affliction. Win Head-to-Heads and counter its Invasive attack with a Kinship Skill to drive it away and claim the Barioth egg.
