Exploring Sierra’s Abilities and Perks in Overwatch

Sierra joins the roster as the 51st hero in Overwatch with the Season 2: Summit update launching on April 14. With the narrative becoming a key focus in Overwatch’s updates, Sierra fits seamlessly into the ongoing Reign of Talon storyline. Her reveal trailer showcased an intense showdown against Emre and Freyja as she aimed to disrupt a Talon operation at the Grand Mesa outpost.

Blending elements of Sojourn and Widowmaker, Sierra boasts a dynamic and engaging kit. If you can land her Tracking Shot, you’ll enjoy the benefits of auto-aim bullets—definitely a perk for those on the offensive, though not so much for her opponents. While it remains to be seen where she will land on the Overwatch tier list, it’s unlikely she’ll be at the bottom.

As a Recon damage hero, Sierra combines the aerial trick shots reminiscent of Widowmaker and Freya with Sojourn’s primary fire. She may not redefine the meta, but her fast-paced gameplay can be deadly in the hands of players who can consistently hit Tracking Shot—Ana mains, this is your moment. Utilize Sierra’s drone to gain advantageous angles, whether that means reaching high ground or leaping over shields.

Here are Sierra’s abilities:

Ability

Type

Effect

Helix Rifle

Primary weapon

An automatic rifle that shoots in a spiral pattern, gaining accuracy the longer you fire.

Tracking Shot

Ability

Fire a dart to mark an enemy, causing Helix Rifle shots to automatically track to them.

Anchor Drone

Ability

Throw a drone into the air. Activate the ability again to launch towards it.

Tremor Charge

Ability

Throw a grenade that creates a shockwave on impact.

Trailblazer

Ultimate

Deploy a drone that flies forward and carpet bombs the area.

Recon

Sub-role Passive

Detect enemies below half health through walls after damaging them.

Sierra also has a selection of perks to choose from as you level up during matches, allowing you to pick one minor and one major perk:

Minor:

Major:

Two perks that stand out are Tight Grip and Locked In. Tight Grip enhances her weapon’s lethality, particularly at longer ranges or when activating mobility (which requires you to stop firing to reset your spread). Locked In provides a significant DPS boost as long as you consistently hit Tracking Shot. If you prefer a more survivable playstyle, consider swapping Locked In for Medi-Drone while keeping Tight Grip.
