Joining the New Camp in Gothic Remake: A Step-by-Step Guide
The New Camp is one of the three factions available for players to join in the Gothic Remake. Similar to the Old Camp, the process of joining is quite lengthy and can feel even more tedious due to the amount of running around and tasks involved.
Keep in mind that you can only align yourself with one camp. If you’re eager to join this group of thieves and mercenaries who dominate the farmers and miners while promoting freedom, here’s how to become a member.
To start your journey into this thieves’ guild, you first need to find them. The New Camp is located in the hills on the western side of The Colony. Exit the Old Camp through the south gate and head west toward the large body of water visible on the upper left of the map—the New Camp is situated right next to it.
However, be cautious as the trek can be perilous. It’s advisable to complete a few of the Casting Shadows quests and then speak to Thorus in the Old Camp for work. Eventually, he will assign you the Out of Sight quest, which involves dealing with Mordrag. Talk to Mordrag about his role as a messenger for the New Camp, and he’ll offer to escort you there, initiating the Admission to the New Camp quest.
Follow Mordrag to the New Camp, where he will eliminate any enemies along the way and provide you with a quest item—a ring—that allows you to speak with Lares, the camp leader. Upon your arrival at the New Camp:
You’ll need to persuade the guards to let you in by mentioning the ring Mordrag gave you. Once inside, talk to Lares, who will outline what you need to do to join the New Camp, specifically mentioning Swamp Camper Baal Isidro and his swampweed supply. Essentially, you need to earn the favor of both Lares and the Rice Lord by completing the following sub-quests:
Lares will request 400 ore nuggets and suggest you consult Baal Isidro at the lake tavern to obtain them. It’s a good idea to speak with Baal Kagan near the camp at the base of the hill leading to Lares’ house to start the Canvassing Customers quest. Sell ten Green Novice to any bandits in the camp, earning you ten ore each. You can then use this money to bribe the guards at the tavern.
Once you’re inside, talk to Baal Isidro and propose helping him sell the swampweed. He’ll initially refuse, so buy him some rice schnapps (his favorite drink) from bartender Silas. After that, he’ll agree to your help, starting The Herb Merchant quest. Sell the Green Novice, Northern Dark, and Dreamcall he provides to mercenaries, bandits, or merchants like Sharky, Cronos, Malon, and Silas in bulk. Hand over the 400 nuggets to Lares instead of returning to Isidro.
After speaking with the Rice Lord at the gates, he’ll ask you to assist Silas at the lake tavern. All you need to do is talk to Silas and then either confront Rayk or persuade him to calm down.
Once you finish A Few Drops Too Much, the Rice Lord will task you with finding Bran, his missing foreman. Be polite when speaking to farmer Malon (this is crucial), and you’ll learn that Bran went towards a cave by a pond where Jacko and Renyu are located:
Enter the cave to confront Jacko and defeat him. He’ll reveal that he sent Bran to rob the basement of the New Camp tavern. If you’re having trouble with Jacko, you can skip this step, but he does drop the strong Bloodfly Sting mace, which can be useful. You can also find the Digger’s Dress armor nearby.
Next, head to Silas’ lake tavern at the center of the New Camp. You need to access the basement, which is located behind Silas. You have two options: lockpick the door or, my preferred method, swim underneath the tavern. The quest will prompt you to speak to a regular customer to discover this alternate entrance (it’s the drunkard Rayk, whom you may have already dealt with), but you can likely skip this step and dive straight in.
After confronting Silas, return to the Rice Lord to complete the Up to His Neck quest and gain his favor.
If you have the Test of Faith quest from Diego in the Old Camp, make your way to the Old Mine in the northwest of The Colony, which is just around the hill to your left when you exit the New Camp. Go almost all the way down to find Ian and speak with him to receive the supply list.
Instead of going back to Diego, head to Lares, who will alter the list. This will trigger the Something the Matter? quest, where you simply need to present the falsified supply list to Diego and then return to Lares.
After completing all the aforementioned quests and earning the trust of both Lares and the Rice Lord, speak to Lares to see if you’re ready to become a bandit. He’ll mention a “special assignment,” which you can inquire about. This will initiate The Raid quest, your final test.
Once you’ve completed all these tasks, Lares will officially welcome you to the crew, concluding the Admission to the New Camp quest. You’ll receive the Bandit’s Dress armor and 1,500 XP. Remember, you can only join one of the three camps, so accepting Lares’ offer will prevent you from joining either the Old Camp or the Swamp Camp, and you will miss out on some quests. However, you can still visit them as long as you adhere to the rules.
