Locate the ‘unknown tool’ essential for mining in Subnautica 2 here.
In the early stages of Subnautica 2, you’ll find yourself manually collecting ore, which can be a slow and tedious process. Your basic tools won’t be able to tackle the larger ore veins you encounter, as they require an “unknown tool.” This is where the Sonic Resonator comes into play.
This robust mining device can easily blast through large deposits of titanium, silver, and lead, allowing you to gather essential materials in bulk—crucial for constructing bases and crafting advanced tools. It also serves the purpose of destroying Bloom Biofilm.
To unlock the Sonic Resonator as a craftable blueprint, you only need to scan two specific locations. Here are the spots I’ve discovered, which should be sufficient:
After unlocking the blueprint, you’ll need the following materials to craft the Sonic Resonator:
While you can find titanium ingots in caches, it’s more efficient to build a Processor to refine them yourself. You can also create wiring kits using one piece of silver and a copper wire. I found the small lead chunks you need (just a reminder, you won’t be able to break the large blocks yet) in a ravine located about 250 meters northeast of the Lifepod.
Head back to a Fabricator at your base (not the basic one in the Lifepod) to craft your Sonic Resonator. To use it for mining, simply swim over to a large ore vein, charge up the Sonic Resonator, and blast it into chunks, which will automatically be collected as long as you have space in your inventory.
