Locating the Probe’s Serial Number in Directive 8020

Just when you think you’ve navigated through the intense moments of Directive 8020, you encounter a puzzle that demands a key code to move forward. Whether you’ve opted to send a distress signal or a warning to Earth in episode 7, you’ll need to track down the serial number for the probe, which isn’t exactly easy to spot.

Like other key codes scattered throughout the game, you need four digits to advance the narrative. This isn’t a complex riddle to crack; it’s more about searching in the right spots. Here’s how to unlock the probe.

The serial number for the probe is 2540.

You can piece together the answer by checking the two screens that display parts of the number on either side of the probe. Unfortunately, the storm on Tau Ceti f has corrupted the probe, causing some digits on both screens to be missing. This adds a layer of challenge, as you only have two parts, and one entire digit is unaccounted for.

Luckily, the first screen, located right next to the input area for the serial number, shows 40 at the end of the four-digit sequence. If you move to the back of the probe, where you can grab the replacement chip, you’ll find the second serial number screen. This one reveals a 2 at the start of the sequence, leaving the second digit for you to deduce. However, if you venture toward the rocks to the right of the probe, you’ll discover a third serial number screen cleverly hidden behind them. This screen displays the final digit you need to complete the sequence: 5.

Once you’ve swapped out the overloaded chip with the replacement unit found at the back, you’ll need to input this code to send either your distress signal for rescue or the warning to Earth. This moment is crucial in the game’s storyline, and even without an alien lurking nearby, the pressure to get it right on the first try can be intense, making it tricky to remember the order of the numbers.
