In Minecraft, everyone knows the struggle of gathering as many animals as possible, only to mix them up. The hope of stumbling upon a name tag while exploring can be frustrating. Thankfully, with the ability to craft name tags now, you can avoid the hassle of confusing your pets or accidentally attacking a wolf that isn’t yours.
Before the Tiny Takeover update, name tags were rare finds in places like Woodland Mansions, Dungeons, and Mineshafts. Now, crafting them is a game-changer, and the recipe is surprisingly easy to gather. Here’s what you need:
To craft a name tag, gather these materials:
Place a metal nugget in one of the top corners and a piece of paper in the square diagonally below it. This will create a name tag, saving you hours of dungeon diving. The type of metal you use doesn’t affect the name tag’s look or durability, so use whatever you have on hand.
The best part? You don’t need a crafting table to make a name tag. You can craft it directly from your inventory since it only requires two slots. So, there’s really no excuse not to name every animal in your barnyard!
To use a name tag, head to an anvil. Place the tag in the anvil and type in your chosen name in the text box. The named tag will appear on the right, and taking it out will cost you one enchantment level. If it doesn’t show up, you might not have enough XP to complete the process.
With your name tag ready, approach the mob you want to name and right-click. The name will appear above their head. Keep in mind that once you name an animal, the tag is consumed and can’t be retrieved. You can’t name the Ender Dragon or other players, but other than that, let your imagination run wild!
