Respec Your Character in No Rest For The Wicked: A Quick Guide

If you’re eager to respec your character in No Rest For The Wicked, there’s a mix of good and bad news. The good news is that you can indeed respec your stats if your current build isn’t working for you, and you can start this process right after you reach the hub town of Sacrament in the game’s opening act. The downside? Unlocking this feature requires some effort, as it’s tied to some pretty tough challenges. If you feel your build is beyond saving, starting fresh with a new character might be the way to go.

For those ready to tackle the challenge, here’s a step-by-step guide to adding respeccing to your Realm in No Rest For The Wicked. Equip your best weapon and prepare for battle.

With the latest update, co-op play is now available in No Rest For The Wicked, so if you want to team up with friends, here’s what you need to know.

Respecing in NRFTW is possible, but it requires some work. You’ll need to complete a mission called Spoken and Unspoken, which involves unlocking the Crucible, a roguelike mode in the game. During this mission, you’ll encounter a character known as The Seneschal, who can sell you the upgrade necessary for respeccing. However, you’ll also need to locate a specific statue and gather certain currencies, so let’s break it down further.

Once you arrive in Sacrament and wake up from your stay at the Rookery Lodgings, the city will open up with shops and sidequests. Among the available quests, look for Spoken and Unspoken (check your Quests menu if you haven’t found it yet). After accepting the quest, follow the historian Elsa into the Cerim ruin and make a blood offering to open a portal to the Crucible. While the offering may look intense, it won’t actually drain your health.

If this is your first visit, the Crucible serves as the roguelike mode of No Rest For The Wicked. You’ll bring your current character and all your gear into the dungeon, but you’ll need to conquer a series of randomized battle arenas while purchasing run-specific upgrades. This area scales to your level, so leveling up won’t make it any easier. Ironically, if you want to respec, you’ll need a solid build and good equipment to succeed.

Challenging the Crucible is no walk in the park. The enemies can quickly overwhelm you if you’re not careful, and many floors are filled with traps. Plus, you might find yourself dodging right off a ledge if you’re not paying attention. However, if you can hold your ground, a surprise awaits on the fifth floor.

There, you’ll encounter a massive worm-like entity known as The Seneschal, where you can purchase significant, permanent upgrades. Among these is the “Iron Corpus,” which is essential for unlocking respeccing. The catch? It costs 20 Gloomseeds, which you probably won’t have the first time you reach this point. You can earn Gloomseeds by defeating enemies in the Crucible, so keep playing until you gather enough. I managed to collect 20 Gloomseeds by my second visit to The Seneschal, but your experience may vary.

After you spend the 20 Gloomseeds on the Iron Corpus upgrade, complete your Crucible run and head back to the entrance portal. To the right of the portal, you’ll find a statue glowing with blue light. Interact with it, and you can finally respec your character.

However, there’s still a catch: respeccing costs Fallen Embers. One Fallen Ember allows you to reallocate up to 10 skill points, so plan your respecs wisely to maximize your ember’s value.

Fortunately, Fallen Embers can drop from various sources. You can find them in chests, from defeated enemies, as rewards from Crucible runs, while fishing, or even buy one from Grinnich in the Marketplace. That said, they are still rare, so only use Fallen Embers for respeccing if you’re certain it’s what you want. You’ll need these precious items to add enchantments to your gear, so weigh your options carefully. At least now, your respec station is here to stay.
