In Mewgenics, you’ll encounter a variety of creative bosses, but the Boneyard’s Dybbuk stands out as a significant challenge. This tricky cat rolls to dodge your attacks, making it tough to land a hit, especially with its 85 health and strong counterattacks.
Dybbuk comes with a foreboding warning that it will “get revenge” on the cat that defeats it. Here’s how to tackle this boss and conquer The Boneyard.
Dybbuk’s primary tactic is rolling to an adjacent tile to evade both ranged and melee attacks, leaving you unable to inflict damage. Fortunately, there are effective strategies to counter Dybbuk:
As the final boss of the Boneyard, be sure to acquire skills that can help you as you approach this encounter. You’ll want to be prepared with some of these abilities before facing off against Dybbuk.
My approach involved utilizing bear traps and the Tower Defence passive of the Hunter class, one of the starting options. I positioned my Hunter at the edge of their attack range, ensuring that if Dybbuk rolled in and out, it would trigger the Tower Defence passive. I then cornered Dybbuk in the top right of the arena with my other cats, using traps to immobilize it for free hits from my melee fighters.
However, once you ‘defeat’ Dybbuk, it will possess the cat that delivered the final blow, forcing you to take down your own character to exorcise it. The possessed cat will use its own abilities against you, which is a crucial detail. Ideally, you want to avoid having your strongest character deal the final blow to Dybbuk, or you’ll face a tougher second phase. In my case, Dybbuk possessed my ranger, unleashing devastating critical hits on my team, and I barely managed to survive.
Leaving this battle with low health or even a fallen cat is acceptable on your first attempt, but once you unlock the Throbbing Domain and need to continue, it can put you at a significant disadvantage.
