The Bloodedge Demon stands out as the most distinctive boss in Nioh 3, as its strength scales with the number of revenants you’ve defeated—those red spirits of other players you can summon for duels. If you’ve been generous with your friendly summons (the blue ones), you’ve likely taken down a lot of angry revenants to replenish your Ochoko Cups. This makes the Bloodedge Demon quite a formidable foe.

Before you can challenge the Bloodedge Demon, you need to locate it. You may have already prayed at a shrine and received the message that the “Bloodedge Demon has appeared,” but it doesn’t provide any hints about its whereabouts or what it actually is. Here’s what you need to know.

The Bloodedge Demon spawns at various points during your adventure, and you’ll need to interact with its bloody grave to summon it. This grave is marked by a large sword surrounded by a purple glow, appearing randomly on the map.

You’ll know the Bloodedge Demon is active if you interact with a shrine and see the notification or if you defeat a revenant that leaves a red trail behind.

To find the Bloodedge Demon’s bloody grave, you can summon and defeat revenants to guide you. As mentioned, the defeated spirit will fade and point you in the right direction, which will also be indicated on your map with a red arrow. Follow these trails, taking down more revenants if necessary, to locate the bloody grave. Just be cautious, as every revenant you defeat adds to the collection of ghostly bodies that the Bloodedge Demon feeds on.

You might also stumble upon the bloody grave by chance without needing to follow revenants, which is how I first discovered it.

Let’s be real: the Bloodedge Demon is incredibly tough. It may not have a wide array of attacks, but it hits hard. However, there are a few straightforward strategies to make this battle more manageable:

Defeating the Bloodedge Demon will reward you with a bounty of gear drops, as expected, but you’ll also earn the unique Bloodedge Demon Soul Core. And yes, if you equip this in the Yang position, you can summon your very own Bloodedge Demon.
