The top builds in Avowed leverage skill trees, abilities, and unique gear to optimize combat effectiveness for stealth, ranged, melee, or spellcasting styles. With a plethora of options available, there are likely several fantastic builds tailored to your preferred playstyle. However, navigating the early game can be tricky, especially when your arsenal is limited. To help you out, I’ve crafted some solid Avowed builds that focus on the Fighter, Ranger, and Wizard skill trees.

The most effective builds in Avowed blend abilities from all three skill trees, as each offers helpful skills for any setup. When starting, it’s advisable to concentrate on one skill tree until you hit level 10 or higher, and to focus on just two or three weapons to avoid spreading your resources too thin while upgrading. As you progress and gather more unique gear, remember that you can respec your abilities and attributes to refine or completely overhaul your build.

Pay attention to the status effects that abilities and items apply, as they can help you create specialized builds with concentrated power. Want to harness elemental effects? Look for items with Fire, Frost, and Shock Accumulation. Prefer to dominate in melee? Choose abilities that inflict Stun and grant you uninterruptable attacks. If maximizing damage per hit is your goal, boost your Critical Hit chance and Might as much as possible. Don’t forget to consider your companions in Avowed, as they can enhance your capabilities or fill in any gaps.

The ultimate Fighter build in Avowed utilizes the Fighter’s Charge ability and its effectiveness against frozen enemies, synergizing well with some of the Wizard’s ice spells. I’m dubbing this the Avowed Frost Knight build. By wielding a shield and a unique ice axe called Drawn in Winter, you can engage enemies in close combat while applying Frost effects to freeze them. Once they’re frozen, you can either chop them down with the axe or use Charge to shatter them for massive damage.

Here are the key items, Attributes, and Abilities you need for this Fighter build:

The best Ranger build capitalizes on the ranger’s invisibility skill, Shadowing Beyond. This ability is incredibly powerful, rendering you undetectable for the duration of your Essence bar or until you attack. This approach creates a stealth archer and assassin build reminiscent of Skyrim, focusing on high damage both at range and up close.

If you want to create this type of build, here are the recommended items, Attributes, and Abilities for the best Ranger setup:

The top Wizard build draws heavily from Dungeons & Dragons, focusing on every Wizard’s go-to spell: Fireball. This fiery build is all about unleashing destruction with fire spells that apply Fire Accumulation and ignite foes. However, be cautious, as this is a glass cannon build; cast these spells from a distance and avoid melee combat.

When it comes to casting spells with a grimoire, you don’t need to worry about upgrading Fan of Flames, Fireball, or Meteor Shower beyond Rank 2, as using a grimoire will automatically elevate them to Rank 3.

If you’re ready to incinerate your enemies, here are the essential items, Attributes, and Abilities to consider for this Wizard build:

These are some of the standout builds in Avowed that I’ve developed. With so many abilities and unique items available, there are countless combinations to explore. You can further enhance your builds with the right totem, as each one provides powerful buffs for combat. As you venture through the game, keep an eye out for the Avowed Totem of Rightful Rulership and the Totem of Defiance.
