In Forza Horizon 5, the right cars can give you a competitive edge with top-notch speed and control. However, with a variety of tracks, terrains, and weather conditions, there’s no single “best car.” A Ferrari will dominate a road race, but it won’t fare well in a cross-country sprint against a rugged vehicle.

Success in Forza Horizon 5 hinges on having and mastering a diverse garage. The challenge lies in earning and spending Credits (CR) on new cars or tuning your existing ones to stay competitive. To help you out, here are some of my top car recommendations for road, street, dirt, cross-country races, and free roam.

If you’re looking for a quick list of the best cars in Forza Horizon 5, here are my top picks:

Choosing any of these vehicles is just the start; remember that your active assists and difficulty settings will significantly impact their performance. For more details on assists, check out our tips guide. Personally, I’ve been using Simulation Steering, with Traction Control on and Stability Control off.

Also, keep in mind that “fastest” doesn’t always mean “best,” which is why there’s a diverse range of cars in my recommendations. If you’re curious about the fastest cars in Forza Horizon 5, I have a separate guide for that.

Tuning and modifying your cars is a crucial part of the game, so don’t hesitate to experiment with auto upgrades, custom tunes, and community-created setups. Some modifications can transform underwhelming cars into speed demons, offering nearly endless possibilities.

Here’s everything you need to know about the best cars in Forza Horizon 5 based on my racing experience:

Weekly updates, stories from your favorite gaming communities, and more

Class: S2 – (Forza Edition) / S2 – 936 (normal version)

Price: N/A (Forza Edition) / CR 2.5 million (normal version)

The Sesto Elemento boasts impressive stats, with 10 in Handling, Acceleration, Launch, and Braking. While it may not be the absolute fastest, its overall performance makes it a top contender in the game. It excels in road races and various open-world activities.

The Forza Edition of the Sesto Elemento also grants a 25% boost for trick points earned through Skill Chains. You can acquire the regular model from the Auto Show or snag the Forza Edition through Wheelspins or the Auction House. The Lamborghini Revuelto is a solid alternative that you can get for free.

Class: S2 – 971

Price: CR 2.8 million

The Koenigsegg Jesko is one of the fastest cars available right off the bat. If you manage to get your hands on one, it should be a staple in your S2 lineup for races and speed traps. I’ve hit a top speed of around 283 mph on the main highway in Mexico, sometimes even exceeding that.

Any modern Koenigsegg hypercar is a great choice if speed is your goal. The Agera RS deserves an honorable mention as it’s 800,000 CR cheaper than the Jesko, with similar stats and a slightly higher rating of 980. The One:1 is another comparable option.

Class: S1 – 900 (Welcome Pack) / S1 – 807 (normal version)

Price: Included in premium Welcome Pack / CR 185,000 (normal version)

The Taycan, an all-electric Porsche, makes its debut in Forza Horizon 5. I have the Welcome Pack edition, which comes pre-tuned for higher speed and launch, making it a beast on drag strips and straight road races. However, its weight makes it less suitable for technical street races. It’s one of the more affordable S1 cars, with others costing over a million CR. If you don’t have the Welcome Pack version, you can find player-made tunes to enhance its performance.

Class: A – 783

Price: Free for everyone (CR 500,000 to buy again)

The Hoonigan Ford Cosworth is a fantastic rally car, perfect for dirt and cross-country races. Best of all, it’s free for everyone after completing the first Showcase event in FH5. With solid handling on and off-road and great acceleration, you’ll find yourself at the front of the pack. Mastering drifting around corners will also help you rack up high scores in Drift Zones.

Class: A – 800 (Welcome Pack) / B – 649 (normal version)

Price: Included in premium Welcome Pack / CR 43,000 (normal version)

The Mitsubishi Lancer GSR is one of the most versatile cars in Forza Horizon 5 and should be one of your first picks. I’ve been using the Welcome Pack edition, which is pre-tuned and only available in the premium Welcome Pack. This Class A version has high Acceleration and Off-Road stats, making it ideal for mixed-terrain Dirt races. Despite its off-road prowess, it also performs well in Street and road races due to its steady handling and speed.

If you don’t have the premium Welcome Pack, consider tuning the base B Class version of the Lancer to reach a rating of 700 or higher.

Class: A – 719

Price: 850,000

While it’s not a real car, the Warthog from Halo is a hidden gem. It features excellent Launch for an off-road vehicle, allowing it to take off quickly in Cross-Country races, and its off-roading capabilities keep it stable. Its base top speed of 117 mph is a drawback, so custom tuning is essential for higher difficulty races.

However, for free roam, the Warthog is a blast to drive. Its size, weight, and power make it nearly unstoppable as you traverse Mexico, perfect for smashing through obstacles like solar panels. While it’s a bit pricey for an off-road A Class car, it’s worth the investment if you have the CR.

Class: D – 497

Price: CR 55,000

Let’s be honest: most D-Class cars are old clunkers, and you probably won’t need one. But if you do, the Ford Capri RS3100 is a solid choice. Among D-Class vehicles, it stands out with balanced stats, offering good Launch, Acceleration, and Handling. It’s suitable for road races, less technical street races, and even some mixed-terrain dirt races. Its simplicity means it’s highly modifiable, and you can find plenty of tune setups to boost its performance to A or S Class.
