Ultimate Guide to Scouting, Transfers, and Top Teams in FC 26 Career Mode

The excitement of FC 26 Career Mode lies in the mix of reality and fantasy, as seen when Carlos Tevez makes a nostalgic return to West Ham, stepping in as the successor to Nuno Espírito Santo. This is just one of the fresh features in EA FC 26, and if you’re looking to switch things up from FUT, you’re in for a treat. We’ve compiled the top five teams to manage, along with tactical insights, scouting tips, and more for your FC 26 Career Mode adventure.

Sure, you might be itching to take the reins of your favorite club again, but why not embrace a new challenge? Here are five intriguing career mode options that you should definitely consider—unless you’re a die-hard Liverpool or 1860 Munich supporter. Whether you want to splurge, save, or go for a no-spend approach, this lineup of challenges has something for everyone.

For many players, the Premier League is the ultimate destination, and Everton presents a fantastic opportunity to create your own legacy. With the newly designed Hill Dickinson Stadium included from the start and a transfer budget of $47.58 million, you’ll have the resources to bolster your squad alongside talents like Jack Grealish and James Tarkowski. The board’s only expectation in your debut season is to steer clear of relegation, giving you some breathing room with early results.

Los Godos also offer a unique experience with their vibrant Adidas kits, including a striking blue and yellow design. Their roster features familiar names from FIFA history, such as Eric Bailly, Santi Cazorla, Salomon Rondon, and Leander Dendonker. With a modest transfer budget of $2.48 million, the challenge is real, but like Everton, simply avoiding relegation in your first year is a realistic goal. From there, you can aim to compete with the likes of Barca, Real, and Atletico.

When it comes to PSG, the underachievement isn’t about the men’s team but rather the women’s squad. Paris St Germain’s women have only clinched their league title once and have four cup victories, overshadowed by Lyon’s dominance with 18 league titles, 10 cups, and 8 Women’s Champions League wins. Can you turn the tide with just $2.48 million at your disposal? At least you have Mary Earps in goal to start with…

If you’re looking for an easy ride, Germany’s most successful club is your best bet. With stars like Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise, you’ll have a staggering transfer budget of $98.87 million. The Bundesliga offers depth, and with the Allianz Arena back in the mix, all 18 stadiums are featured in FC 26. Just remember, the board expects nothing less than total domination: “Win it all, at home and abroad.”

The South Londoners, established in 1892, have yet to secure a domestic league or cup title and start with the smallest transfer budget of any English club in the game: $1.12 million. Fortunately, the board’s expectations are ‘very low,’ giving you ample time to bring in key loanees in your first season and gradually climb the leagues. This is as tough as it gets for long-term career mode projects.

While you can create your own avatar at the start of your career, many players prefer the authenticity of having a real manager in the dugout. They don’t even have to match their current club. For my FC 26 experience, I took charge of West Ham as the legendary Carlos Tevez. Below are ten non-Premier League managers who would fit right in during career mode, along with a club from their past that you might want to pair them with.

After selecting or creating your manager and picking your team, your first task is to establish a Tactical Vision. There are seven templates available, each offering subtle variations to your tactics from the get-go.

The Standard approach is balanced, with no significant strengths or weaknesses. Wing Play emphasizes your wingers, while Possession focuses on a tiki-taka style of short passing. High Pressing is all about the legendary gegenpress and direct attacks.

Park the Bus takes a defensive stance, Counter Attack prepares your team for quick breakaways, and Kick and Rush relies on a more physical, direct style of play.

Once you’ve chosen your Tactical Preset, head to the Coach Management tab at the top of the screen. Here, you can hire coaches to implement your chosen strategy. Each coach is rated out of five stars in categories like attack, midfield, defense, and goalkeeping. The better the coach, the more they can enhance your players’ attributes throughout the season. Just ensure you align coaches with your Tactical Preset and place them in the category where they can make the most impact. For instance, if a coach has a two-star attack rating but four-star in defense, keep them in your defensive coaching lineup.

The FC 26 Youth Academy is crucial for your long-term strategy. Last year, the list of countries expanded to over 160, allowing you to scout up to four specific positions and three distinct Player Roles. Youth-player Rush tournaments are essential for testing hot prospects and developing them along the way.

Youth tournaments in career mode occur every two months, and you can choose to use players based on their current ratings or their ultimate potential. After each match, you can see how Match XP has influenced their abilities and how long it will take them to reach the next overall rating. It’s a lengthy process, but this mode is designed for extended play, making it all the more satisfying when players developed through Rush finally make it to your first team.

Searching for the next big talent? Head to the Academy tab and then Youth Scouts. This process is similar to the previous one but offers even more nations to scout for talent.

You can hire up to three youth scouts, sending them out for three, six, or nine months, with specific instructions to find players with a focused role. Each scout has Experience and Judgment ratings, which help you discover more players and higher-quality players, respectively.

During their scouting period, you’ll receive intermittent reports. Review these to see a broad overview of players, including their current overall rating, potential rating, attributes, and positions. From these reports, you can sign players for your academy.

The Global Transfer Network serves as your main hub for scouting players. If set up correctly, you should have a steady stream of talent to evaluate.

To access the Global Transfer Network, go to the Transfers tab and select the Scouts panel. Here, you’ll find your current scouts on one tab and an instructions menu on the other.

First, use the Instructions to tell your scouts which players to identify. You can search for potential signings by position, age, contract length, overall condition (from backup to world-class prospect), PlayStyle, or Player Role.

Once that’s done, send your scouts out across the globe. You can hire up to six scouts, each rated out of five stars in Experience and Judgment. Experience will provide a broader selection of players, while higher Judgment will yield better quality players. Ideally, you want scouts with at least a three-star rating in both categories.

After a few in-game weeks, return to each instruction grid to find the list of players your scout has discovered. If they’re struggling to find players, consider broadening your scout instruction parameters. While you may dream of finding the perfect player, it’s rarely that straightforward.

You’ll receive a rough snapshot of each player, and you’ll need to scout them further by clicking on their report. It’s also wise to shortlist them in the Transfer Hub to keep track of specific targets among the many players highlighted. After a short period, your scouts will provide a full report, including overall rating, market value, weekly wage, release clauses, and expected transfer fee.

Once you’ve scouted a player, you can add them to your shortlist and either approach to buy, approach to loan, or delegate the tasks to your assistant. Fully scouting a player gives you a rough asking price and the lowest offer that could realistically be accepted.

When entering negotiations, you can propose an up-front fee that comes from your transfer budget or enhance the deal with sell-on clauses and player swaps.

Be cautious with your initial offer. Presenting an unrealistic bid may lead the selling club to walk away. It’s advisable to start just above a player’s market value and negotiate from there.

If your offer is accepted, you’ll need to negotiate a wage with the player’s agent, as well as their squad role and contract length. If they sign, you’ll receive a quick recap on how they compare to your current squad and what the best possible deal could have been.

FC 26 Training Plans are another way to manage your players’ fitness. You’ll find them in one of the six panels beneath the Squad tab.

You need to monitor two stats for your squad: Energy and Sharpness. Energy reflects how fit your players are; too many games can lead to fatigue, making it hard for them to complete 90 minutes. High Sharpness boosts form and skill, enhancing their performance on the pitch.

Each player has five training levels. Intense and Heavy focus on Sharpness, while Balanced is a middle ground. Light and Recovery prioritize stamina and energy but at the cost of decreased Sharpness.

While we’ve discussed coaches in Tactical Presets, there are additional tips to maximize your boot room’s potential.

Achieving success in your first season will improve your manager rating, allowing you to hire more coaches in future seasons, which will significantly enhance the impact of your Tactical Presets. For gameplay assistance, check out the skill moves guide.

Like players, coaches can also improve over time. The more wins you achieve with a Tactical Preset, the more XP you can allocate to your backroom staff. So don’t hesitate to start with some three-star coaches.

Pay attention to a coach’s Knowledge level, as this boosts a player’s overall rating on the pitch. If your budget allows, aim for no lower than Accomplished, though investing in Experts can yield short-term success, even if it strains your wage budget. It’s also acceptable to adjust your coaching staff to find the right balance. Focusing on Attack and Midfield is recommended, as they tend to produce the most tangible results (i.e., goals) early in the season.

Coaches also help increase the Role Familiarity of players assigned to key roles by one level. To achieve this, ensure the coach’s tactical Knowledge exceeds the player’s natural Role rating and that they can play that position.

The manager market is an exciting new feature. Globally, managers can be poached, sacked, or choose to resign. Be sure to add clubs to your Watchlist that you might want to manage in the future. Keep in mind that AI-controlled managers will implement their tactical vision upon joining a new club, adding variety to your opponents over the long haul.
