Marvel Rivals’ ranked mode offers the most competitive experience in the superhero shooter realm, complete with exclusive rewards. However, it comes with a complex set of ranks, rules, and restrictions. This mode is a more intense version of Quickplay, featuring higher stakes and longer matches, so understanding the mechanics is crucial for climbing the ranks from Bronze to Eternity or even One Above All. Here’s everything you need to know about ranked play in Marvel Rivals.
Once you hit level 15, you unlock the ranked mode, where two teams of similarly skilled players face off in multi-round matches. Winning matches earns you rank points, helping you ascend through the divisions for special rewards and bragging rights.
Each rank division consists of just 100 points, which could mean moving up with as few as three or four wins. On the flip side, losing matches will cost you rank points, potentially leading to demotions. Performing well individually can maximize your rank point gains or minimize your losses.
To avoid dropping a division, you can use a Chrono Shield, which acts as a buffer against demotion. However, these shields need time to recharge after use, leaving you exposed to potential rank loss. At Bronze, Silver, and Gold ranks, your Chrono Shield recharges after a loss.
Instead of seasonal rank resets, a Placement Match system is now in place. At the start of each season, you’ll receive a projected rank based on your previous performance. You’ll then need to complete 10 Competitive mode matches—your Placement Matches—to adjust your projected rank to your actual rank. After that, you’ll earn and lose points as usual, allowing you to climb the ranks throughout the season with a slight advantage based on your skill level.
Marvel Rivals Competitive mode features 23 skill divisions across nine ranks. Some divisions have unique rules, such as hero bans and rank decay, along with various teaming restrictions that are detailed further below.
Here are all the ranks you can achieve in Marvel Rivals ranked mode:
