In Avowed, your starting weapons are determined by the Background you select during character creation. While there’s a wide array of weaponry available as you progress, your initial choice will be limited to what you start with. It’s important to consider this early on, even though it’s just a temporary phase. Here’s a rundown of the starting weapons available in Avowed based on your chosen Background to help you make an informed decision.

Depending on the Background you choose for your character in Avowed, you’ll receive one of the following five weapons:

You’ll make your selection shortly after waking up on the beach and encountering Garryck, your first companion. Your starting weapon will be found next to some barrels and crates nearby, along with a Health Potion on the ground. At this early stage, your starting weapon won’t have a major impact, as it will primarily be used against a few easy enemies to help you acclimate to the world of Avowed. Throughout the game, all characters, regardless of Background, will have access to the same selection of weapons. Your investment in the Avowed skill trees will ultimately determine which weapons suit your playstyle best. Plus, you’ll have the ability to upgrade your weapons in Avowed to ensure your favorites keep pace with your character’s growth.
