Unlocking All Terraria Companions: Cattiva, Foxparks, Chillet, and Digtoise
After the 2025 crossover in Palworld, pals have finally made their way into Terraria with the 1.4.5 update, Bigger and Boulder. Some of these pals can be quite elusive—looking at you, Foxparks—and I never encountered them in my older worlds. I eventually managed to collect all the Terraria pals, but it only worked after creating new worlds.
Now that I’ve tracked down all the pals, I’m still experimenting with the best strategies to find them consistently. If you discover a method under different conditions that I can replicate, I’ll be sure to add it here!
Having written this shortly after the update’s release, I’ve spent my nights testing various theories and hoping for some Water Candle buffs. Cattiva is the “easier” one to find, while Foxparks had me questioning my commitment to this quest. The others were less of a hassle, but after scouring forums and communities for tips, it seems I’m not alone in my frustration over pal spawn rates.
I can guide you on how to find the Terraria pals using the same setup that worked for me, but remember that spawns aren’t guaranteed right away. You’ll need to recreate those conditions and then hope for a bit of RNG luck.
I managed to find all the Terraria pals in two fresh 1.4.5 worlds, but they don’t seem to spawn under the same conditions everywhere. Cattiva and Foxparks appear on the surface, while Chillet and Digtoise require you to dig underground, sometimes as deep as the cavern layer.
All were found in pre-hardmode on small and medium-sized maps in new Terraria 1.4.5 worlds, using vanilla settings without tModLoader, and I encountered surface pals after the Goblin Army event.
Cattiva and Foxparks always spawn with goblins holding them captive, and they can perish if you don’t act quickly. I often heard their cries before spotting them, and I consistently detected a Goblin Scout on my Lifeform Analyzer before getting close enough for it to register either pal.
Searching for Chillet was manageable, though I only found Digtoise once in my second world. Equipping a Metal Detector speeds up the search for both, and a Spelunking Potion is helpful for locating Digtoise.
As for older worlds, I never spotted the pals in a pre-1.4.5 save, but I didn’t test for long before generating a new world. I also had no luck finding Cattiva or Foxparks before the Goblin Army event. After hanging around for a few hours, I triggered the event and saw my first Cattiva shortly after the invasion.
My first Foxparks appeared soon after Cattiva, and I suspect that was just an incredibly lucky find. I created a second world to try and replicate that experience, but it took hours of running in and out of the outer zone to finally see Foxparks. Some players claim to have found both Cattiva and Foxparks without encountering the Goblin Army, but I haven’t been able to recreate their success.
To get Cattiva, trigger a goblin encounter on your world’s surface. Every time I spotted Cattiva, it was in the outer thirds of my map during clear days. I only found the pal in jungle and forest biomes, but most of my successful attempts were at the edge of the world in a forest strip.
I found Cattiva without using a Water Candle or Battle Potion, but having items that boost spawn rates can only help. The Lifeform Analyzer was always with me, and I stayed just off-screen from most of the forest until it flagged a Goblin Scout—my signal to rush back and check for more goblins and the pal.
Sometimes it was just the scout, but on lucky runs, I encountered two Goblin Archers guarding a distressed Cattiva. Don’t linger too long (I learned that the hard way), or you’ll miss your chance. Defeat the goblins, rescue Cattiva, and enjoy your new companion.
You obtain Foxparks in the same way as Cattiva, but be prepared to wait longer. I used Water Candles during every successful attempt, but as mentioned, I got my first Foxparks in a fresh world with minimal effort. I found Cattiva, dropped a Water Candle in the same area, waited a bit, and soon after, the distressed fox appeared.
My second Foxparks in a new world was a different story. Despite following the same steps, it took hours for the pal to spawn, leading me to believe my first experience was just an incredible stroke of luck. In successful attempts, I always found a Goblin Scout with my Life Analyzer first, then rushed back to the source and heard Foxparks’ cries for help. Defeat its goblin captors, and the pal is yours.
I discovered Chillet while digging deep into the cavern layer, far from the surface. Some players suggest it can also spawn in the underground, closer to the surface, but that hasn’t been my experience yet. My world is a chaotic series of tunnels carved out of desperation.
Let the Metal Detector guide you to the egg, pick it up, and use it (right-click) to unlock either Chillet (blue) or Ignis Chillet (pink). I’ve only seen the blue version, but other players are convinced it’s a 50/50 chance between the two. If that’s true, then my bad luck streak continues.
I never found Digtoise in my first world, but quickly discovered it in the second after digging through the underground desert. Whatever was wrong with my first save (or maybe it’s a skill issue) remains a mystery, as I combed through the same biome and layer without success.
Finding Digtoise later was much easier. I dug into the underground desert, wandered through the dungeon, and the Metal Detector did the rest. When you spot the pal’s shell, hit it with your pickaxe to claim it. If you’re having trouble spotting Digtoise, try using a Spelunker potion to highlight the pal and other mineable treasures.
