It’s that time again: Overwatch’s annual reset is here, bringing with it the usual confusion surrounding the new competitive weapon variant. I totally understand; the system can feel overly complex with its various currencies. This year, the spotlight is on Crimson Wolf, a striking Talon-red themed camo.
Crimson Wolf joins the ranks of Golden, Jade, and last year’s stunning Galactic variant as the four competitive weapon camos available for all characters and their skins. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned player experiencing the annual reset, here’s how to add Crimson Wolf to your collection.
You can unlock Crimson Wolf using Competitive Points, the red currency earned by participating in standard or Stadium competitive matches and competing in end-of-season Drives during the current competitive year. Since this currency resets annually, everyone starts fresh with The Reign of Talon’s Season 1: Conquest, whether you’re new to the game or a veteran.
Crimson Wolf will set you back 3,000 Competitive Points per character. You earn ten Competitive Points for a win and five for a draw (20 for a Stadium win), plus a bonus for filling the progression bar just by playing matches in these modes. Check your current points by heading to the weapon variants menu and looking in the top right corner.
It’s crucial to note that these points are different from Legacy Competitive Points, the white currency, which you can only earn at the end of a competitive year when your current Competitive Points are automatically converted. Legacy Competitive Points are used for previous year’s weapon variants, like Galactic, Jade, and Golden.
Crimson Wolf will be retired in February 2027, becoming part of the Legacy rewards alongside past variants, while a new skin will be introduced.
Additionally, you can unlock Doomfist’s Crimson Wolf skin (an exclusive character skin, distinct from the weapon variant) by reaching Diamond rank between Season 1 and Season 3 this year.
