Unlocking the Moogle Treasure Trove: Your Guide to the Aphorism Hunt in Final Fantasy 14
It’s almost time for another update in the Dawntrail era, which means the Final Fantasy 14 Moogle Treasure Trove event is back, offering some fun activities to keep you busy until patch 7.5 drops on April 28. This time, we’re diving into the “Hunt for Aphorism,” featuring new ways to snag old rewards through alternative (and often simpler) methods.
Let’s break down how to kick off the Moogle Treasure Trove event, how the Mogpendium functions, and all the rewards you can earn with Aphorism Tomestones. If you’re looking for tips on the best ways to farm Moogle tomes or what to exchange them for, I’ve got you covered.
The Moogle Treasure Trove event is pretty straightforward: complete a variety of challenges, from raids to deep dungeons to fishing trips, and earn Irregular Tomestones of Aphorism as your reward. You can then trade these tomestones for various goodies, including mounts from past extreme trials or Triple Triad cards.
If this is your first time participating in the Moogle Treasure Trove event, here’s what you can expect:
A few key points to remember for the Moogle Treasure Trove:
You can exchange your Moogle Treasure Trove Aphorism tomes by chatting with the Itinerant Moogle located in any of the three starting city-states (Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah). You might hear the Moogle’s adorable, squeaky sounds before you see it, but here are the exact coordinates in each city:
There are four different ways to grind Irregular Tomes of Aphorism before the Moogle Treasure Trove wraps up, and the Mogpendium serves as your handy in-game guide for tasks that earn you more tokens. Some Mogpendium objectives are one-time challenges, while others can be farmed repeatedly.
Even if you don’t need the MGP, you’ll still earn full credit (10 Aphorism Tomes) for completing a GATE with a perfect score. Most of these challenges aren’t too tough and spawn every 20 minutes (at 00:00, 00:20, and 00:40). It’s a more laid-back grind without the hassle of forming a party.
Rival Wings is my go-to method for farming Moogle Treasure Trove currency. This MOBA-like PVP mode in Final Fantasy 14 usually sees low activity between events, but it really picks up during the Treasure Trove. You can earn 3-5 tomes per match, the gameplay is enjoyable, and the matches don’t take too long.
Some Treasure Trove events have a Blue Mage meta that dominates, but it largely depends on the available duties. If you can gather a solid group of experienced Blue Mages to tackle dungeons or trials in sync, you’ll likely farm tomes faster than with any other method.
Week 1: Complete Neverreap (Heavensward dungeon).
Week 1: Complete (5) FATEs in Kholusia OR play (1) match of Doman Mahjong against a player.
Enter a Treasure Dungeon via a portal (5) times.
If the name didn’t give it away, the Moogle Treasure Trove is a fantastic way to snag some of Final Fantasy 14’s most sought-after mounts, minions, and glamour items. The event usually features a new exclusive reward, but sometimes those rewards make a return in future iterations.
Older trial rewards aren’t worth spending your Tomestones of Aphorism on, so prioritize exclusive items like the Miner’s Earring and Fat Cat Parasol first.
The exclusive reward for the Hunt for Aphorism is the Miner’s Earring—a cute, dangling pickaxe that shows off your love for mining.
You can also grab the Fat Cat Parasol, a returning reward from the special anniversary edition of the Moogle Treasure Trove, the Hunt for Tenfold Pageantry.
Once you’ve secured the earring and parasol, fate-exclusive mounts like the Ixion Clarion and Ironfrog Ambler are solid choices if you don’t want to keep an eye on old fate timers to catch their spawns.
The Bomb Palanquin Horn and Direwolf Whistle are older Allied Society rewards, making them another easy option if you’re not up for a ton of daily tasks.
This event is still beneficial for veterans like me who have been playing Final Fantasy 14 for ages. I use it to grind MGP Platinum Cards, which are worth 50,000 MGP each, and it’s my main source for MGP to buy those expensive mounts from the Gold Saucer.
I’m also on the hunt for achievements, so I pick up items like the Seemingly Special Timeworn Map and Ostensibly Special Timeworn Map. These guarantee a portal to their designated treasure dungeon, making it a great way to tackle some of the more tedious map achievements.
