Unlocking the Scavenger Mount in Gothic Remake: A Step-by-Step Guide

Taming a Scavenger mount in the Gothic Remake is a fantastic way to avoid trekking across the entire map on foot or retracing the same paths repeatedly. While fast travel is available in Gothic, it’s restricted to camps, making a mount a much quicker option for getting between familiar spots.

You can acquire the Scavenger mount at any point in the game, but you’ll need a decent amount of money and learning points to purchase the mount, learn some necessary skills, and craft the saddle. Here’s how to get your Scavenger ready for a ride.

First, you’ll need to complete the Beak Performance quest, which you can pick up from Cohsel located to the west of the Old Camp. Before diving in, be prepared with at least 280 ore nuggets and six learning points.

The quest location is easy to spot, as there’s a Scavenger mount right outside and a tame wolf nearby. Talk to Cohsel until he brings up riding a Scavenger, then ask him to teach you three times—keep at it until he agrees.

Cohsel will first request five Kingstide, a plant that grows at the bottom of lakes. Head to the large lake near the New Camp, just west of the hut—you can easily find it on the map. Speak to Homer at the top of the dam to learn diving for five learning points and 30 ore.

Once you’re ready, dive into the lake. You’ll find five Kingstide plants here (this is where I found mine), so explore the lakebed for the long stems and pinkish flowers. There are two close to the bottom of the dam, and a quick lap around should help you spot the rest. Bring these back to Cohsel.

Next, Cohsel will ask you to gather materials for the saddle, specifically:

To collect the pelts, you’ll need some hunting skills. Head west up the valley to find Aidan, and pay him 250 ore and one learning point to learn how to skin animals. There are plenty of wolves in this area, either near Aidan or along the path from Cohsel’s shack, past the lumberyard.

You’ll also need three Leather Strips, which I happened to have on hand. As Cohsel mentions, you can buy them from blacksmiths, so visit your camp’s blacksmith based on your faction, or purchase them from Fiskin in the southern market area of the Old Camp.

Return these materials to Cohsel, and he’ll instruct you to come back the next day. Head back to the Old Camp and rest in your hut. When you return the following day, he’ll give you a whistle to summon your Scavenger mount. Just press F to ride it, but keep in mind that it can get startled by settlements and combat, so dismount before entering a camp.
