CloverPit, a grungy Balatro-inspired game, launches on iOS and Android on December 17.

CloverPit has quickly become one of my top picks this year. Developer Panik Arcade has taken the successful formula from Balatro and reimagined it around a slot machine instead of poker, allowing players to manipulate game mechanics for jaw-dropping scores. Since its launch in September, it has sold over a million copies on PC and has been a top 20 title on Game Pass following its surprise release last month. Now, this horror-infused roguelite is set to make its mobile debut on iOS and Android on December 17.

The mobile versions promise a fully optimized interface and will include all post-launch updates, including the recently introduced Hard Mode. Priced at $5, CloverPit will feature no microtransactions or “predatory mechanics.” This might seem unexpected for a game themed around a slot machine, but the developers emphasize that it’s not about gambling; it’s about bending the rules to shift the odds in your favor.

The premise is simple: you find yourself trapped in a rusty cell with a growing debt. The only way to escape is to earn enough coins from the slot machine to settle your dues. With over 150 items, referred to as charms, you can experiment with various combinations that influence spin counts, symbol values, and ticket earnings. Tickets are essential for acquiring more charms.

Mastering the right item combinations is crucial for maximizing your coin and ticket gains during each slot machine session. If you fail to pay off your debt by a certain number of spins, it’s game over, and you’ll fall into the titular pit.

CloverPit is a unique and captivating experience that’s a blast to play. I’ve already sunk around 39 hours into it on Steam, and I can’t wait to dive into it on my phone once it launches next week. Doomspinning feels like a healthier alternative to doomscrolling!
