This Meta Quest 3 charging dock may beep constantly, but it sure keeps my VR setup organized.

After setting up my Quest 3, I quickly noticed how fast the controllers drained their batteries. Even after a week or two of inactivity, I often returned to find them completely dead. Since I was only using a charging stand for the headset, I figured it was time to find a solution that would also keep the controllers powered up.

That’s when I discovered the PrismXR charging dock, which seemed to fill the gaps in the market perfectly. It charges both the headset and controllers while offering a sleek, low-profile design that fits well in any gaming setup. There are no flashy RGB lights, and its height is just right for most shelving units, blending seamlessly with the Quest 3’s aesthetic.

Priced at $69.99 / £69.99, it’s competitive with other charging docks, so let’s see how it performs.

Having recently reviewed the PrismXR charging belt for the Quest 3 and 3S, I had high expectations for this dock. The Carina D1 is straightforward: plug it in via USB-C, and it magnetically charges your headset and controllers.

However, it’s worth noting that this dock was designed specifically for the Quest 3, which means it has a snug fit that won’t accommodate the Quest 3S without a separate version. This could lead to some purchasing confusion, but it does ensure a cleaner look for whichever headset you own.

A quick search reveals that both charging docks serve the same purpose and are similarly priced. It might be wise to check their price history, as the costs for Quest 3 accessories can fluctuate significantly.

To keep the controllers charged, the D1 dock includes rechargeable batteries and different grip plates that attach magnetically. These plates feel just like the original ones during gameplay and are easy to swap out.

The magnetic charging pins connect the headset to the dock, keeping the overall look tidy with no visible cables from the front.

One of my favorite features is the head strap pedestal at the back, which enhances compatibility with third-party accessories. I was initially concerned that my KIWI Design Comfort Battery Strap wouldn’t fit, but the design alleviated those worries.

On the technical side, the Carina D1 Charging Dock can Fast Charge up to 27W, which PrismXR claims will take your Quest 3 from 0% to 50% in 45 minutes and fully charge it in 1 hour and 50 minutes. The controllers take about 2 hours and 30 minutes to charge.

The dock also features LED indicators on the front to show the battery levels of the headset and controllers, along with audible beeps to signal charging status.

I really like the look of the PrismXR charging dock. Its compact design means I had plenty of options for placement in my living space. It fits nicely on a shelf or desk without taking up too much room, and its white finish matches the headset perfectly.

The real test, however, is how well it charges the headset and controllers. While I’d prefer a faster charging time, I recognize that a charging stand doesn’t need to be lightning quick since it’s meant for resting the devices between sessions. I found it took about an hour to charge the headset to 50% while the controllers were also connected, which aligns with the quoted 45-minute time for just the headset.

The LED indicators are helpful for monitoring charging progress, but the loud beeping when connecting and disconnecting devices can be quite annoying. The dock beeps when you first connect the headset and controllers, when charging is complete, and sometimes continues to beep unnecessarily. Some users have reported issues with the beeping being erratic, which I experienced when my headset reached full charge. It seems that the beeping may be linked to connection problems, as I’ve had instances where it beeped loudly and others where it didn’t beep at all. This inconsistency can be frustrating.

It’s also unclear whether the dock automatically shuts off when the Quest 3 is fully charged. If it doesn’t, it could lead to battery life issues down the line. Unless you unplug the dock or remove the headset, it might continue charging, which could result in more beeping. While I’ve had some positive experiences without annoying beeps, the reports of connection issues from other users raise concerns.

Given that the brand’s charging belt turns off when it detects a fully charged headset, it’s disappointing that the dock doesn’t clearly communicate whether it does the same. Touching the LEDs puts them to sleep, but it’s uncertain if that actually cuts off the charging power. Fortunately, I found that my headset can still rest on the dock even if it’s slightly misaligned, but this goes against the snug design the dock aims for.

Despite the irritating beeping, I believe this charging stand is one of the better options available for the Quest 3. PrismXR has created a well-designed product that caters to a wide range of VR gamers with various storage needs and head strap setups.

While the charging speed could be improved and the beeping is a common complaint, I appreciate the convenience of charging both the headset and controllers in one place.

I used the PrismXR Carina D1 Charging Dock in my gaming setup for several weeks before writing this review. Since receiving the testing sample, it has been my primary method for charging my VR headset and controllers. I timed how long it took to charge the headset in different scenarios: from 0%, from 50% to 100%, and for a full charge. I compared my experience with other Quest 3 accessories.
